TAIPEI - TAIWAN
2006 Special Collaborative Project
with DuPont materials:
Corian and Sentry Glass Expression
Taiwanese branding agency DEM.inc
VIP section of the most prestigious plastic surgery clinic of Taipei, this space is designed to deliver a unique life-style branding experience. Innovative materials like Dupont’s Corian and SGX laminated glass normally designed to cover limited surfaces are for the first time used on a full architectural scale to clad every single surface of floors, walls, pillars, doors and end up creating an incredible kaleidoscope of reflections and light effects. Because of these new technologies some original visual effects are created to push the boundaries of traditional decoration to new limits.
Corian Panels are produced in modules, engraved by CNC machine and back illuminated by LED lights. Because Corian is a translucent material Artwork is highlighted by the back light passing through the thinner thickness of the engraved sign. Each panel is framed on the back by a metal profile fixing the panel along the existing wall. Because of the modular use of lights different feeling could be achieved within the same space.
Corian and SGX laminated glass are used as architectural surfaces as well as canvas of amazing artworks. Glass floor is made of SGX laminated tiles produced by DuPont. This technique which is known as Sentry Glass Expression consists of printing with Epson Ink an artwork in high resolution (700dpi) on PVB plastic film which is laminated onto safety glass to achieve outstanding printing results on large glass surfaces. Each tile features a section of a gigantic artwork designed by artist Katrin Olina and the gap between each tile is filed by 8mm neutral color silicon profile allows continuity of the perception of artwork between tiles.
For “Dr James” SGX is used for the first time as floor surface.
This interior design project is a celebration of beauty and is responsible for the definition if the brand image of "Dr James" also in terms of the aesthetic of website, product design and office stationery.
